We found an optimal route for this island lift but, while the top station was easy to locate and build, the lower end was tightly constrained. The lift was also very close to the ground. Getting the last few feet to the dock would have required removing a tree and relocating a building and, with the owners, we decided the tree was more important than the last few feet. As it turned out, with the lower platform at chest height, it's still easy to load and unload the car.
The top station needed a platform and short catwalk that leads to the cottage.
Even though the track traverses the slope down to the water and both the upper and lower station are in this photo, the lift is almost impossible to see from the water.
