This cottage had a lift that was so decrepit the company they hired to service it were uncomfortable and approached us to see if we could replace it. On their referral we met the owners and they said yes.
The project began with the removal of an old lift that ran along the same path but finished about three feet above the dock. To have the new lift land flush with the dock, we cut and removed rock on the hill and added substructure to the dock.
This lift became our most involved project, 3-stations each having an automatic interlocked sliding gate that has triple redundant leading edge safeties to avoid pinching small children. We designed and built these pocket doors in the shop before building them into the lift on site. They use FAAC gate controllers that are controlled by the same PLC that controls the lift.
We worked with their construction crews to integrate the lower station into the dock. The old lift landed about 30” above the dock, ours is flush with the dock. We also built and installed the railings, all designed to match some existing railings.
The middle station allows people in wheelchairs to access the boathouse roof.
The drive hardware and electrical panel are inside a wood paneled housing that hides and protects it. The lift tiptoes through the garden.
The upper station platform is a bit of a taxi stand for ATVs that carry workers and guests to the around the island.
The finished lift sits beautifully in its environment, providing comfort and safety for family, friends, and staff.
This is also one of our most heavily used lifts, landscaping and construction crews use it more than the owners, and it averages over 1,500 round trips every year.
